Fundraising: Blule Whale Sculpture

Description:

We are planning to build a life-size Blue Whale Sculpture to create an experience about the life of the Oceans. The whale is part of the great human turnaround to save the planet.

Depending on species a whale mother gives birth to its calf every three years and the calf reaches maturity when six to eight years. The reproduction rate is the lowest of all mammals. Tonnes of whale’s meat is being wasted and carelessly fills landfills. It all makes common sense, commercial whaling is economically unsustainable and methods of killing are inhumane and unacceptable.

Noise pollution of the oceans interferes with the whales communication system. They depend on their echolocation for orientation and navigation. Military experimentations in the oceans is a big threat and disturbs on all levels of frequencies various different whale species communication system. We demand to set priorities right and to share the oceans with respect towards these mammals. Help raise awareness for a noise-free ocean!

Only 73 nations are members of the International Whaling Commission (IWC). This is less than half of the countries in the world that are part of the United Nations. We are building a network to involve all nations to participate and vote for the protection of the whales and to change the memorandum to allow scientific research only by observation and without lethal results. Whale of a Time help the whales and its friends to reach longevity and live in peace.

To keep the peace and live in harmony with the whales is a global responsibility as recognized in the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention, “whales are part of the common heritage of all humankind, and therefore all humans and nations have a stake in their protection for future generations.” No country can claim a moral right to kill a whale because the whales are not legally an exclusive resource of any one nation.

Whale of a Time exists to find alternatives for countries like Norway, Japan and South Korea to achieve a peaceful solution where people find commercially sustainable opportunities and create jobs in the support for their community and their environment, for example to build on Whale Watching Tourism, so that it is acceptable for them to stop hunting whales as an end result.

Whale of a Time workshop migrates through the UK to educate and inspire people and their governments around the world to help protect the oceans. We connect people with nature through art and raise awareness of environmental issues.
